AgroFair is an importer and distributor of Fairtrade tropical fruit. AgroFair producers in Africa and Latin America are joint owners of the company. In 1996, AgroFair was the first company to develop and import Fairtrade bananas, and in 2002 it added mangoes and pineapples to the Fairtrade fruitbowl. In 2005 we developed a year-round supply of citrus fruit. These products are now sold in eleven countries in Europe and in the USA. The Fairtrade system ensures that the producers receive a guaranteed price for their fruit which covers the cost of production, and an additional supplement, known as the Fairtrade premium, which can be used for social and environmental projects to improve the lives of the farmers. AgroFair’s organisational structure is unique in that the producers have a 50% share in the company, giving them the right to be involved in decision-making on company policy and strategy. They are represented on the Board and at Annual Shareholders’ Meetings. Profits made by AgroFair flow back to the producers.
